Welcome to Writesized. 

It’s a laboratory for me to connect with others and write. I draw from my experiences, successes, and failures tripping upwards through life as a DJ, a radio producer, a music IP professional, a wanderer, a drudge, a man in love, the oldest person in class (by far), an immigrant, a party monster, even a monk. Here, I will experiment with check-in posts, essays, fiction, and the occasional narrative DJ mix as I refine my version of a creative life of purpose.

I’ve turned over a lot of rocks throughout my life in a search for meaning and I’ve seen a common story. We live in diverse realities and the world can be a complicated mess.  Despite this, we share a capacity to overcome, to help, to recover, to love, to build, and to even laugh and create beautiful things. This is my effort to join that group of storytellers who remind us: no matter how much we have been ground down by the world or by our own doing, we have an innate spirit of connection and perseverance.

I’ve moved all over the United States and overseas in search of something just beyond the grasp of my articulation. Today, I can see that these various paths are all threads I’ve had to collect before I had a tailored perspective to weave them together as a writer. 

So here I am - starting this new chapter in quiet defiance of fear, perfectionism, and procrastination. At times I may overwrite, underwrite, and write badly - but I’ll be writing. So please read. Send me your thoughts, things you find interesting, and things you’ve created yourself. Let’s share. I don’t know exactly where I’m going, but I would love companions.

*P.S. I’ve activated a pay tier, because the Substack intelligentsia have recommended I do it from the start (apparently, doing it later would require everyone to re-sign up). But, I’m not sure how this will look in practice. Eventually, I may put some essays and longer pieces that also go up on Medium behind the paywall. A paid subscription at this point is a donation to the “full time freelancer trying to pay bills” fund.  A paid subscription would be lovely, but it’s not required. And if there is ever any financial issue with accessing something behind a paywall, please contact me directly and we will work it out.
